To look up a character, break it into components, then search with Component Search in Exact or Fuzzy mode.

1. Input

1. Type Chinese characters (e.g., 好, 女, 子) in the search box, or click components in the table below (arranged by stroke count). You can enter some or all of the components.

2. With two or more components, the search follows the input order by default (e.g., 土水). For any order, separate them with a space (e.g., 土 水) or click “Space” in the Substitute row.

2. Search Modes

1. Exact: Matches only the identical component form. Example: 牛 finds only characters containing 牛 (e.g., 件, 牢).

2. Fuzzy: Also matches similar or related component forms. Example: 牛 also finds characters containing 牜 (e.g., 件, 牧, 物).

3. Special Symbols

1. ㊕ (Special component): The system decomposes characters using 512 components. A shape outside these 512 is marked ㊕. Example: 绝.

2. *: Stands for 0 or more components.

3. ？: Stands for exactly 1 component.

4. Start (^): Inserts “^” in the search box; the character must start with the search value. Example: ^山 finds 岐, 岸, 峽.

5. End ($): Inserts “$” in the search box; the character must end with the search value. Example: 山$ finds 仙, 岳, 巒.

6. Space: Inserts a space, meaning AND, in any order. Example: "土 八" finds characters containing both 土 and 八 (e.g., 基, 填, 坌, 坋).

4. Component split​

If you are unsure how a character breaks down, use the Component split​:

Enter a Chinese character → click “Decompose / Variants” → the components are shown below (for a component, its variant forms are shown, e.g., 木: 朩) → click a component to send it to the search box above.
